Did you know? The Tom Collins has been around since the late 1800s! (Which is why I chose to letter the name in a Bookman style, which is from around that time.) Thank you Wikipedia for educating me on the history of this cocktail!

Our friend Myca came over for dinner tonight. We had watermelon cucumber salad (yup, still making that pretty regularly since my food month), pan-fried ginger+sesame+garlic chicken thighs, a quick Napa cabbage stir-fry, and Myca's fresh raspberry lime popsicles. And a bottle of white wine. Yum yum.

We did not have Tom Collins (plural?), but I asked Myca if she had any suggestions for my cocktail month and this was one of them!

I'm having quite a lot of fun with these.... pretty sure this will end up being my favorite month so far. It's definitely a different process from my previous months:I'm using nicer paper (one 6x6" sheet per day), I'm trying to be more consistent with my final photo output, and I'm making it more of a cohesive series. Also... illustration + watercolor. So many new things!

Watercolor is a particularly new challenge for me, as I've never worked much with it and I basically have one brush that I've been using and a pretty standard paint palette. But so far I'm feeling fairly okay with the results? Today I tried doing some blue ombre thing in the Tom Collins part. Also, I am not sure how to paint clear-ish drinks.

In other news, St. Germain's official Instagram account left the sweetest comment on my St. Germain Gin & Tonic post! It's like the alcoholic equivalent of Taylor Swift commenting on a cover I did of "You Belong With Me" (sadly, that never happened -- the commenting I mean). The honor! The fan girl-ing!

Social media is weird.
