I've been saving up this quote for some reason. With only 2 days left in the month (including today) I figured it's time to use it! I do not know if this flower grew up in a very adverse environment (my guess is probably not) but... details. I had fun trying out a messier script style.
In other news, this morning I woke up to find someone had posted an initial attempt at handlettering on Instagram, and it was an unashamedly blatant copy of my lettering from yesterday. I know this is a 365 project and I'm not pouring tons and tons of work in each piece, but they are all like tiny babies of mine that I put love and care into (ok, minus the tipsy or half-asleep ones). So it's definitely not cool to see someone take one of them, copy it, and pass it off as their own. It bummed me out intermittently throughout the day.
However, I'm trying to focus on the positive ("yay someone thinks my stuff is worth copying"). I suppose the more I work on my lettering, the more likely this kind of thing will happen! And I just gotta keep on keepin' on. It brought to mind one of Jessica Hische's advice posts I had read a while ago on people ripping you off (read full thing here). I found the following words especially encouraging:
The best medicine is to just keep working and know that any time and energy you spend getting panicky rage over people ripping you off takes away from your ability to make work. When you’re first starting out, you’re so defensive about your position in the industry because all the good stuff just started happening, but if you can keep the ball rolling and keep making awesome work, what once was a soul-crushing fury will turn into a barely noticeable annoyance that can at times legitimately feel flattering.
Good words to remember :)
